Shi QingFeng
Demi-Gods and Semi-DevilsShi QingFeng is the seventh of Su XingHe’s Eight Friends of Hangu, known for cultivating rare flowers and herbs. Her brief appearances establish both her practical botanical expertise and her enduring loyalty to her master, even after he expelled the group to protect them.
Identity and Skills
Su XingHe’s disciple Xue MuHua identifies Shi as the group’s seventh sister and describes her as skilled in growing flowers. She has cultivated a range of exotic flowers and rare medicinal herbs, all flourishing under her care. Her expertise gives her a distinctive place among the Eight Friends, whose members are associated with varied pursuits as well as their martial training.
That knowledge also has practical use in the group’s encounters. Deng BaiChuan attributes the substance that made him dizzy to flower pollen gathered by Shi, rather than to poison. Shi acknowledges that she offended him and asks his forgiveness; Deng, in turn, apologizes for injuring her when he used too much force. Their exchange presents her as a participant in the confrontation, not merely as a cultivator working apart from the group.
Place Among the Eight Friends
Shi is one of the disciples whom Su XingHe expelled. Ding Chunqiu frames the expulsion as an act intended to save the Eight Friends from being killed, while Fan BaiLing emphasizes that their affection and respect for their master did not diminish during their years apart. The distinction matters: their formal standing as disciples had been withdrawn, but their attachment to Su XingHe remained.
When Ding Chunqiu demands that they deny their continuing discipleship, the seven members present answer together that, although expelled, the bond between master and disciple is eternal. Shi is not among those speaking in person: she is seriously injured and has to remain behind in the cave. Her absence from the declaration is therefore caused by her condition, not by any stated break in loyalty.
Injury and Threat
Shi’s injury makes her vulnerable during Ding Chunqiu’s confrontation with Xue MuHua. To force Xue to treat a monk, Ding Chunqiu lays out a sequence of threatened deaths among the Eight Friends, including Shi, whom he identifies as the sister skilled in cultivating flowers. His threat turns her defining talent into the means by which Xue can identify her within the group, while making clear that she is among those at risk.
Xue refuses to be cowed by the threat and answers that the Eight Friends may all die together. The available account does not establish Shi’s eventual fate or describe her recovery. What it does establish is that she is injured, left behind in the cave, and included in the danger Ding Chunqiu uses to pressure her fellow disciples.
